Welcoming Our En Plein Air Artists to Twin Trees Festival!

The sunken garden at Heywood.

As the Twin Trees Art & Culture Festival kicks off, we’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of our En Plein Air artists tomorrow at the picturesque Heywood Gardens. Over the next few days, these talented individuals will capture the beauty and essence of some of the most stunning landscapes in Co. Laois, guided by our expert tutors Jock Nichol and Neal Greig.

Here’s what’s in store:

  • Day 1 (Thursday, August 22nd): Our artists will begin their creative journey in the serene surroundings of Heywood Gardens. With lush greenery, historic features,  Pleached Limes, the Loggia, a Pergola overlooking a stunning Romantic landscape, and breathtaking views back towards Ballinakill Village, there’s endless inspiration for artists of all levels.

  • Day 2 (Friday, August 23rd): The adventure continues at Masslough Lake, with beautiful lakeside views, woodland trails and a diversity of wildlife. Artists will also be welcomed by Julie Ann Kelly, aka The Soulful Gardener, who has kindly given access to her stunning sensory garden, part of the Laois Garden Trail and which featured on RTE’s Ireland’s Garden Heroes.

  • Day 3 (Saturday, August 24th): The final day will take our artists to Ballinakill Village, rich in history and character. Thanks to O’Shaughnessey’s Bar, artists will also have access to their beautiful garden, offering unique views of the village and stunning blooms, and All Saints Church, Ballinakill, will also be open for our artists, should they choose to venture indoors. This stunning building, constructed in  1821, still features much of the interior which dates from the second half of the 19th century when the church was enlarged and redecorated by the Domville family.
