Twin Trees Heywood Festival.

August 20th-23rd 2020

We are delighted to confirm that this Twin Trees Heywood, Art & Culture Festival, will go ahead as planned, and we are really looking forward to welcoming you all to Heywood Gardens, Ballinakill, from August 20th – 23rd!
We have so much on offer this year, such as our three day Tutored En Plein Air Painting, our Tours, Talks & Picnic Afternoon Tea, a Guided Historical Walk, Fishing Competition, Laois Food Market, and of course Yoga In Heywood Gardens, with Simon Rogers.

With every consideration of the ongoing Covid-19 situation studied, in relation to our event, our attendees and the event venue, we are happy to conclude that we can provide you with a unique outdoor festival experience, in the beauty and safety of the wonderful Heywood Estate.
All attendees will be issued with our Health & Safety guidelines prior to the event!

Your Safety

Heywood Estate is set on over 50 acres, comprising of formal gardens, woodland trails and lakes; and with limited numbers taking part in the event, we can guarantee social distancing, for all participants.

Event welcome and introduction, will be carried out with staggered arrival times for all attendees, where applicable.

All Government guidelines in relation to outdoor gatherings, will be adhered to, and therefore may be subject to change, in tandem with those guidelines.

Health & Safety instructions will be issued to all participants, prior to the event, once finalised in adherence to Government guidelines.


Three Day En Plein Air (Open Air Painting)

Thursday 20th – Saturday 22nd August -With tutors Jock Nichols, Bridgette Flannery & Geraldine O’Reilly.

Day 1: Heywood Gardens

Day 2: The Woods

Day 3: The Village

Artist of all levels of ability and experience, are welcome to attend.


Tours, Talks & Picnic Afternoon Tea

Saturday 22nd August

A Guided Tour of Heywood Gardens, with Lutyens’ descendant, Amanda Pitcairn, followed by talks with Dr. Matthew Jebb, Botanic Gardens, and Geoff Stebbings, Editor of Garden Answers Magazine, and former Head Gardener at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The talks will take place, either side of Afternoon Tea, which will be served picnic-style.


Fishing Competition

Saturday 22nd August

This year’s Fishing competition takes place on Saturday 22nd August, beginning at 10am with a draw for fishing spots.

The angling will begin at Gills Pond at 11am and will conclude at 4pm. A fee of €10 applies to all participants and places are limited. For registration details please contact Norman Rothwell on 087 2879070.

This competition is run in conjunction with Ballinakill Angling Club.

Yoga In Heywood Gardens with Simon Rogers

Sunday 23rd August

We cannot think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning in August, than a calming Yoga class, in the stunning surroundings of Heywood Gardens. Our Yogi for the session, Simon Rogers, as well as being a passionate Yoga teacher, is also a Natural Health and Well Being Therapist, and is Facilitator at Blackhill Woods Retreat, which is a sanctuary of Nature, Yoga & Well Being, in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.
